Hello, it’s important to discuss your insurance options when moving. Have you considered insuring your belongings during the move? It’s always a good idea to plan for the worst-case scenario. For instance, what would happen if your recently purchased $3,000 TV from Costco was damaged during the move? Would the moving company provide you with a new TV or just a small compensation of $30? It’s crucial to understand these details before the movers arrive at your home. In California, moving companies charge the same rate regardless of the value of your belongings. Most moves are based on hourly rates, and your final bill will depend on how much time it takes to complete the move. The State of California requires moving companies to provide basic weight-based liability coverage of $0.60 per pound, per article. So, if your dining room table weighs 100 lbs. and is damaged, the moving company is only liable for $60.00 (100 lbs. x $0.60). While this may not seem fair, it’s the law. However, here at Titan Relocation Services, we offer additional insurance options to provide extra protection for your belongings during the move.

OPTION A: RELEASED VALUE PROTECTION

Our rate includes Released Value Protection, which provides basic liability coverage of 60 cents per pound per article. If your stainless-steel refrigerator, which has an average weight of 250 lbs., gets scratched during the move, you’ll be compensated $150. Similarly, if your plasma TV, which has an average weight of 60 lbs., gets cracked during the move, you’ll receive a compensation of $36.

OPTION B: ACTUAL VALUE PROTECTION

We offer In-house Actual Value Protection for televisions and refrigerators, which is straightforward and easy to understand. The insurance cost is 10% of the declared value of the item, up to a maximum of $1,500. For example, if you declare the value of your refrigerator to be $1,200, you’ll be charged an additional $120 upfront. If your insured refrigerator gets scratched during the move, you’ll be reimbursed for the declared value within one or two business days after the move. Please note that this insurance must be purchased before the move and cannot be purchased during the moving process. The remainder of your items will be subject to the Released Value Protection, which provides basic coverage of 60 cents per pound per article, regardless of the item or if internal or external damage occurred. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask Titan Relocation Services for more information.

OPTION C: THIRD-PARTY FULL VALUE PROTECTION

Titan Relocation is accredited with MovingInsurance.com, a third-party insurance provider, which offers a range of insurance plans to protect your belongings, including Full Value Protection. If you need more information, please ask one of our Titan Relocation representatives, or you can visit MovingInsurance.com directly. However, we advise you to read the details of your coverage carefully or speak with an agent at MovingInsurance.com before signing any agreements. It’s important to make an informed decision and ensure that your belongings are adequately protected during the move.
